"Decoder not inited, Open an IFO file first", what's wrong?
This problem is caused by the copyright protection of your DVD disc.

Solution: You can use a DVD player software to unlock the DVD disc, such as WinDVD or PowerDVD... Just play the DVD with your DVD player software and then run Easy DVD to VCD Burner. The DVD player software is not required to run during the converting process.

Why can't I play the burned VCD/SVCD in my VCD/SVCD player?
Sometimes this problem is caused by media incompatibility issues. If a DVD/CD does not play or work after you have burned the medium, choose another medium type or brand and repeat the burning process. Eventually, you may have to lower the burning speed. Many writers are not compatible with cheap or old media (blanks). The quality of some blanks is actually so bad, that the specified maximum speed cannot be reached in most cases. Find a combination of writer, disc and player that work together.

Why can't I play my CD-RW in my VCD/SVCD player?
For VCD/SVCD, you'll want to work with CD-R rather than CD-RW because you can't play CD-RW discs in normal VCD/SVCD players.

Why can't I use the CD/DVD drives installed in the computer?
You may not have security rights to use the CD/DVD drives. To give access rights to a non-administrative user, do the following:
1) Open 'Control Panel' and click on 'Administrative Tools'.
2) Double click on 'Local Security Policy'.
3) Double click on 'Security Options'.
4) Double click on 'Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on users only'.
5) Click on Enabled.

Note: CD/DVD access is not currently possible for users with Non-Administrative rights for Windows XP Home Edition. This limitation does not apply to the Windows XP Professional Edition.

Windows hanged when burning VCD/SVCD, what's wrong?
Make sure that no other program that accesses CD/DVDs uses the AIN (Auto-Insert Notification) function during the burning process. If this function is activated, the burned CD/DVD may not be finalized correctly. In the worst case, the operating system will hang. We strongly suggest that you de-activate AIN.

Windows 98/ME Settings:

5) Repeat #4 for each device.
6) Reboot the system for settings to take effect.

Set the following registry value to disable Auto-Insert Notification using RegEdit.exe: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Cdrom/Autorun=0

What kind of video type can we select as the output format?
You can copy DVD movie into several video types, including VCD (MPEG 1 format), SVCD (MPEG 2 format), DivX (MPEG 4) AVI and other AVI (compressed by the selected codec, DivX codec recommended).

How many CD-R's are required to burn one DVD and how long will it take?
This depends on the length of the DVD video and the output video format you chose. Suppose you chose DivX as the output video format, one CD may be sufficient. But if you want to store the movie in VCD format and play it on your VCD player, then two CDs will typically be required to hold a full DVD. You can store up to 80 minutes of video on one CD-R in VCD format.
The time required for the entire process will vary depending on the speed of your computer and the length of the DVD movie. The process does not require your constant attention, so you can start the process before you go to bed or while you're at work. For the average computer, you can expect the entire process to take between 4-6 hours for an average two hour movie.

How can I make the DVD ripping result fit in a CD-R?
If the size of your CD-R is 60 mintues, you should choose "60 Minutes CD-R/RW" as your Volume Size.

When I rip a DVD movie the picture comes out looking either squashed or stretched, how do I fix it?
If the default output settings don't work for you, then you may try to customize the output resolution. It's all trial and error though, until you find what works best for you.

When selecting audio I sometimes get the wrong thing, why?
If you get the wrong audio, then try selecting a different track as different audio tracks can belong to different videos.

What's the difference between .IFO and .VOB files in a DVD?
The .IFO (and backup .BUP) files contain menus and other information about the video and audio. The .VOB files (for DVD-Video) and .AOB files (for DVD-Audio) are MPEG-2 program streams with additional packets containing navigation and search information.
